RTITB is proud to be the operator of the National Register for LGV Instructors (NRI).  The NRI is endorsed by the DVSA and supported by the Freight Transport Association (FTA)  and the Road Haulage Association (RHA).

RTITB operates the National Register of LGV Instructors on a not-for-profit basis for the benefit of the road transport industry.

The NRI opened in January 2017 and is the successor to the DVSA voluntary LGV Instructor register which closed on 31st December 2016.

DVSA are part of the NRI governance committee overseeing the delivery and development of the register and associated examination.  The governance committee also includes the RHA and FTA, as well as large and small employers of LGV drivers and commercial LGV training organisations.

RTITB operates the NRI as a separate entity and information on the register is held and managed on an independent database. RTITB’s operation of the NRI is regularly audited by the governance committee to reassure members of quality, standards and neutrality.

The RTITB Instructor Academy is an approved NRI examination centre and runs courses that prepares candidates to undertake the NRI examination.

I’m really proud that DVSA will be supporting the new LGV industry driving instructor register. DVSA will be part of the governance committee overseeing the delivery and development of the register and associated examination. It will continue to set standards for driver training through its role on the committee, and by maintaining the national standard for driving lorries."

Colin Snape, RHA Deputy Director of Policy: "The Road Haulage Association fully supports the need for professionalism of LGV drivers trainers and the need for a formal register. We believe that with RTITB taking on the register, continuity of excellence in LGV driver training will be maintained."
