On 10th September 2009 the initial qualification for LGV drivers will change for those people wishing to drive professionally. Upon completion of the 4 modules below the candidate will be sent a Driver Qualification Card, which must be carried whilst driving. To retain the Driver CPC, 35 hours of periodic training must then be completed within a 5-year period.
The qualification will be divided into 4 modules;
- Module 1 - A theory test
- Module 2 - Individual case studies
- Module 3 - A practical test
- Module 4 - The Driver CPC practical test
If you do not wish to drive professionally you need only sit modules 1 and 3. Modules 2 and 4 can be undertaken at a later date if you so wish.
The theory modules must be taken before the practical counterparts. (module 1 before module 3 and module 2 before module 4) however the theory modules can be taken in any order as can the practical modules.

- On road driving time for all rigid category vehicles will increase to a minimum of 1 hour to allow for assessment on a wider variety of roads and traffic conditions
